The Department of Special Services provides two different preschool programs.

Preschool Disabilities Program

The Fairfield Board of Education provides this program to children ages 3-5 based on the specific eligibility criteria set forth by New Jersey Administrative Code Title 6A Chapter 14: Special Education (NJAC 6A:14). If a child is experiencing difficulties or delays in one or more of the following areas:

  • Physical, including gross motor, fine motor, and sensory (vision & hearing)
  • Cognitive Skills
  • Communication Skills
  • Social/Emotional Development
  • Adaptive Skills

The child may be referred to the Child Study Team for evaluation.

If the Child Study Team evaluations reveal an identified disabling condition and/or the presence of an educational disability, affecting one or more of the above areas of functioning, the child will be deemed eligible for this program.

 

Preschool Lottery
 

          Preschool Lottery Information

The Inclusive Preschool Program

The Fairfield Board of Education provides an inclusive, preschool program Monday to Friday from 12:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. only. There are no morning classes.

The tuition for this program is $1,000.00 per quarter subject to change. Transportation is not provided.

The child must be a Fairfield resident and be four (4) years of age by 10/1/2024.   Regular education students who reach age 5 by October 1 are eligible for the regular kindergarten program only.

The program consists of students from the community selected through a lottery system. The remaining students will be selected from our preschool disabled population at the discretion of the IEP Team. The program focuses on language, readiness, and social interaction.

To add your child’s name to the Preschool Lottery list for the 2024-2025 school year, contact Mrs Serpico via e-mail: at serpicoj@fpsk6.org.

You will need to provide: Child’s Name, Birthdate, Address, Mother’s and Father’s first names, phone number, and whether you own your home, rent, or live with a resident.  If you live with a resident, please also include if that resident owns or rents.

Applications will be mailed at the end of December 2023, so be sure to email Mrs. Serpico to be sure your name is on the mailing list.

Lottery selection will take place during the closed session of the January 2024 Board of Education meeting.(Date to be determined)

Late in January, parents will be notified by mail whether or not they have been picked in the lottery.
