Dear Fairfield Residents,

In order to accommodate the growing enrollment in our school system, the Fairfield Board of Education (BOE) has developed plans to expand and renovate, where necessary, the two existing buildings. A public referendum to approve funding for the projects will be needed.

Beginning in the fall of 2017, the district has been evaluating alternatives to meet the needs of our growing student population and to accommodate the space for educational programs. A demographic study was completed to anticipate the increased enrollment and its impact on our two schools.  The existing buildings have now exceeded their capacity.

At the January 29 BOE meeting, three (3) options for consideration for Stevenson School and two (2) options for Churchill School were presented by the district’s architect, Jerry Rubino of DiCara Rubino Associates. After careful examination, the BOE voted on two options, one for each school, to be submitted to the NJ Department of Education for review and approval. The two plans are available through the link below. The review process period could take up to six (6) months.

At our upcoming BOE meeting on Thursday, February 27, the architects will present the two plans that were submitted for approval. It is important that the community understands the need for this referendum. The meeting will take place in the Stevenson School gymnasium at 7:30 p.m.

Moving forward, it is the intent of the BOE to keep the community informed by holding meetings to explain key details and progress of the referendum. There will be an opportunity at these meetings for a “Question and Answer” session. The parents will be notified about each meeting through “blasts” in order to give plenty of advance notice to attend. Furthermore, updates will be added to our website under the referendum tab on a regular basis.

We encourage parents who receive these “blast” notifications of upcoming meetings to inform their friends and neighbors in the community so they may, too, attend the meetings, as well as to make them aware of our website  www.fpsk6.org  where they can get information as it develops and see the two plans.
